UNLOCK YOUR SPORTING POTENTIAL

At Fit4sport we have the key to unlocking your sporting potential, maximising your performance and reducing the risk of injury. The key is through Fit4sport musculoskeletal screening.

Why Musculoskeletal Screening?

The phrase “you don’t know what you don’t know” is so pertinent as it’s only through knowing that one can elicit change. This change is the catalyst to greatness.

Through our comprehensive screening, we can identify movement dysfunctions and compensatory strategies you are using that are hindering your performance and potentially increasing your risk of injury.

The unknown becomes the known.

OUR SCREENING PROCESS

During our Fit4Sport musculoskeletal screening, we use a step-by-step system with functional assessments to determine if an individual is in prime anatomical position.

Prime anatomical position is the postural position from which a person functions best. The length-tension relationships in all the joints and muscles are optimal, meaning they can activate all their muscles properly and efficiently.

Physical attributes required for high-level activities—such as muscular strength, power, endurance, flexibility, balance, proprioception, speed, agility, and functional movement patterns—are determined by anatomical position.

Injuries can be prevented, and sporting performance maximized by identifying and addressing muscle weaknesses and imbalances and improving sports-specific movement patterns.

What is a Functional Assessment?

Functional assessments use muscle testing to see if a client has the capacity to activate the muscles being tested. If someone cannot activate a muscle, they are possibly out of prime anatomical position.

What Does Our Fit4Sport Musculoskeletal Screening Include?

We provide a comprehensive assessment of your musculoskeletal system. The overarching aim of the assessment is to identify any factors that may:

● Predispose you to potential injury

● Limit you from achieving your full potential in your given sport

● Address any previous injuries you may have had, ensuring maximum recovery in relation to performance

● Improve physical health and performance

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE ASSESSMENT?

Postural Assessment

● Isolates and pinpoints problems in the spine and lower limbs

● Foot position: overpronation/supination

● Knee position: knock-kneed, bow-legged

● Pelvis position: excessive lumbar curve (lordosis/flat back), hip tilt & rotation

Joint Range of Motion

● Examines all major joints from head to toe: cranial vaults, spine (cervical/thoracic/lumbar), pelvis, hips, knees, ankles, feet

Flexibility

● Trunk and lower body muscles (hip/hamstrings/quadriceps/calf complex)

● Upper body muscles (shoulder, biceps/triceps/forearm)

Core Strength

● Pinpoints any dysfunction and prioritizes focus areas for specific exercise and stretch prescriptions: rectus abdominis, obliques, quadratus lumborum, transverse abdominis

Functional Movement Screen

● Evaluates movement quality, alignment, and stability: spinal movement, breathing pattern, walking pattern, squat, single-leg squat, anti-rotational bird dog

After the Assessment

Once we have established where your body needs support, we provide you with a unique corrective exercise program to restore your body to its prime anatomical position and target the areas that require improvement. This may include:

● Physiotherapy treatment (if required)
● Stretching and mobility exercises
● Specific strengthening exercises
● Motor control exercises
● Drills or strategies to improve functional technique
● Advice regarding regular self-maintenance

These corrective measures are super effective, proven to show a 20% improvement or more within 10 minutes on post-testing, having improved the capacity to activate muscles that previously tested weak.
